Login / Author rights

You will find OpenOLAT at the following URL  https://olat.vcrp.de.

As a rule, teachers automatically receive author rights. You can easily find out whether you have these rights. First log into OLAT. You should be able to see the author area in the navigation bar at the top of the browser window. If this is not the case, you can apply for author's rights at the Virtual Campus Rhineland-Palatinate via the e-mail address lms-admin(at)vcrp.de.

As a rule, students do not receive author rights for OpenOLAT. An exception may be student assistants who supervise OLAT courses as part of their official duties. Author rights are granted centrally by the Virtual Campus Rhineland-Palatinate. Please apply for the rights for your student assistant via the e-mail address lms-admin(at)vcrp.de.

If you're not a member of a university in the Rhine Palatine area, you can use this tutorial to create an account.

Course Management

To make sure that your courses can be found easily by your students they should always be entered into the OLAT catalog. To make the catalog entry click on the button "Administration" in your course and there on the option "Settings". Now switch to the section "Catalog." There you can add your course to a suitable category.

It is possible to enter the course into more than one catalog category. To do this, after you have selected a first category, click again on the "Add to catalog" button and select a category in the catalog again.

We would like to ask you to always place your courses in the appropriate categories in the catalog, otherwise the catalog will become confusing for students and your courses will not be found.

Switch to your author area and click on "My entries" there. There you will find all your resources listed.

Select all learning resources you want to delete by placing a check mark in the leftmost column.

Press the "Delete" button at the very bottom of the page and then confirm the deletion of the learning resource.

Deleted learning resources can be found in the "Deleted" section of your authoring area for a while. You can restore them from there at any time. However, please note that these deleted learning resources will be removed permanently after a while.

Important: You must be the owner of a learning resource to delete it.

Course Owner: The Course owner role is not to be confused with the Course Coach role. Group owners have full control over a group and can configure it as they wish (add or remove blocks, manage members, release or delete the group, etc.).

Coach: This role is well suited for tutors. People with tutor rights can make assessments (e.g. on tests or assignments) and have access to course statistics.

Participants: By default, group participants are all people who book the group. They can only interact with the existing bricks and can only view the information that has been approved by the group administrators.

Have you given the right of ownership to other persons? It may happen that you have entered other persons in the "Member Administration" (in the OLAT course in the section "Administration") under "Owner" who have the right to deregister you from the owner list and have done so accidentally or intentionally.

The courses you have created can be found in the author area under "My entries". If you have more than 20 learning resources, a new page with entries is generated automatically. You can recognize this by the fact that a page enumeration appears below the list of learning resources.

Note: Tests, blogs and wikis are also learning resources.

Another way to find your course is by using the search mask. The search mask can also be found in the author area.

Groups

Courses: Courses are the central learning resources in OpenOLAT. Via various course elements and other learning resources that you can include in courses, you have extremely diverse options for your teaching. Groups can also be included in courses and used for group work.

Groups: Groups can be used in two ways. Independent of courses, they can be used as a course substitute with highly limited functionality but much easier to configure (e.g. for distributing literature). Integrated into courses, they can be used for group work or for rights management in the course.
